What is a Bubba?
The many variations of Bubba.
Many of us had read the 2018 email that was released from the House GOP Oversight Committee in November 2025 between the two Epstein brothers and people asked the question of who Bubba was. Many alleged thoughts and implications have been made.
A statement was made by Mark Epstein:
Recently, emails from 2018 between my brother and me were made public. They were simply part of a humorous private exchange between two brothers and were never meant for public release or to be interpreted as serious remarks.
For the avoidance of doubt, the reference to ‘Bubba’ in this correspondence is not, in any way, a reference to former President Bill Clinton.
Any attempt to conflate that reference with President Clinton, or to read sweeping implications into them, misrepresents both the purpose and the tone of the original correspondence. I want to be absolutely clear on this point so that the public record is not distorted and so that speculation does not unfairly implicate people who are not actually being referenced in those communications.
“A spokesperson for Mark Epstein confirmed the 2018 message was not about a horse. The rumor emerged after Epstein denied claims that “Bubba” referred to former President Bill Clinton. Epstein clarified it was simply a private humorous exchange between brothers, not a reference to a horse or to Trump.”
How the nickname was derived
Bubba originated as a nickname with a child mispronouncing “brother”, mostly common in the South, although it was used in other regions. Many years ago, first recorded around 1860-65, it was used as a southern stereotype of a “redneck”, and could seem offensive. It was also referred to as a person that is stubborn, a southerner that loves country music, moon pies, bluetick hounds, friendly, outgoing, a good ole’ boy. Bubba has been used in many countries and languages, for example: the Yiddish word for grandmother.
But in these modern days it is used everywhere.
Clinton’s nickname
Back in the 1990’s when Clinton was in the race for the White House, he was given the nickname Bubba. Newspaper articles from all over the United States reported on this during his campaigns. Don Imus from WFAN started referring to him as “Bubba” and it took off from there. Many people did not see him as a “Bubba” and commented on this in the papers. His qualifications did not meet the definition reported by some: He went to Oxford and Yale, married a feminist, did not have the hair, and he did not wear his cap to the side. And Bubba’s don’t play the saxophone. And Bubba’s have common sense, and if a true Bubba lies, you are not spoken to again.
Bubba Clinton the racehorse
There was a horse sired by millionaire pacer Frugal Gourmet named Willow Place Bubba (many horses had a nickname Bubba). He was a two-year-old pacing colt. The one co-owner wasn’t pleased with the name, and since many Imus fans came to the track, it was decided to change the name to Bubba Clinton because of this being during the election time. October 29, 1992, he won the first time at Garden State Park in Cherry Hill New Jersey (just days before the election). This was a major upset, with his previous races coming in 4th and 8th.
Bubba the magazine
In New York a pocket-sized quarterly magazine was published by Allison Magazines. The first issue was in February 1993, and the name of the magazine – Bubba – and the focus: celebrated and satirized Bill Clinton “Bubba” image as he became president. It talked about his home state Arkansas and his lifestyle. But the magazine was short-lived.
And there were even contests:

The Famous Bubba’s
There are many from sports, entertainment, and media. We have golfer Bubba Watson, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, rapper Bubba Sparxxx, Bubba Blue from Forrest Gump, Bubba Smith NFL player (Charles), Bubba Cathy part of the Chick-fil-family business, and many others.
Celebrate Bubba Day
National Bubba Day is celebrated each June 2. Of course, this is a made-up day for laughs and internet memes. It honors anyone named or called Bubba. To qualify to be honored today, your name can be formally, or informally “Bubba”. You can even take on the name “Bubba” for just the day, or longer if you prefer. That way everyone can celebrate this day.
Response from Bill
Clinton’s representative responded by stating that the former president knows nothing about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and has not had contact for nearly 20 years. He was reported to have been on his plane in earlier years traveling in 2002 to Africa and allegedly to Europe and Asia, besides the New York apartment in 2002 with a staff member and security, and the Harlem office in 2002. (Tampa paper).
And I will leave you with this question: Mark, what were you and your brother referring to?
